Emerging from a regional cooperative structure with roots dating back to the 1930s, the organization works closely with flax growers across Northern France and plays a major role in preparing flax fibres for the European linen industry.

Terre de Lin operates within the traditional European flax belt, where climate conditions are considered particularly suitable for long, high-quality linen fibres. Their role sits between flax cultivation and textile spinning: coordinating growers, processing retted flax straw, separating fibres and preparing graded fibre lots for textile spinners.

Flax cultivation remains geographically concentrated within a relatively small region of Western Europe due to the crop’s sensitivity to climate, soil composition and seasonal moisture levels. The cooperative structure allows cultivation, fibre preparation and early-stage textile processing to remain closely connected within the same regional ecosystem.
